Electronic Recording Industry Update July 17, 2002

AtPac announces a major step in bringing electronic documents from lenders to the County Recorder’s office.

AtPac, California’s leading provider of county recording software, announced today that it is automating an electronic interface with the reconveyance and loan document digitization and workflow software of Safedocs Co., Inc.

This interface between the secure delivery system and Recorder’s back office software provided by AtPac to its customers with electronically signed secure documents created using the Safedocs digital packaging services provides and end-to-end e-solution for all the providers in the county recording process.

AtPac is a long time advocate and provider of "electronic recording" methods in California. AtPac currently provides e-recording of California Franchise Tax Board lien documents, the e-recording of County tax lien documents, and provides electronic filing and publishing of Fictitious Business Name Statements for the County Clerk. AtPac includes its e-recording solution as part of its back office solution to County Recorder’s and licenses its capture and delivery software to Title Companies. Leading Title Companies and progressive County Recorder’s have recorded and successfully conducted pilot programs of these products. "Including electronically signed documents originated by the lender is a next step in the full automation of the recording process", says AtPac President and CEO Jim Maclam.

Safedocs e-solution provides for the creation of, and the application of digital signatures to electronic documents. Safedocs holds the distinction of being the first system in California to be approved by the Secretary of State to digitally apply signatures and electronic notary seals to electronic documents. "This integration is the wedding of solutions that takes advantage of leading software for lenders and recorders", says Safedocs President, Terry Van Bibber.

AtPac and Safedocs both support the CAL-XML tags and the recording of document images, images with tagged data and data-to-image solutions.
